Sheng Yang Leisure Farm

This dragon boat festival Michelle and I ended up spending the first day out in Yilan. I arrived around 12:00, and after having a quick lunch, we hopped on our scooter and scooted out to Yuanshan Township to explore the Shen Yang Leisure Farm. This farm is famous for cultivating water plants, though there is a lot to do.

Before going in(which requires a 100$ fee) we checked out some of the free to view plants. It was definitely interesting to see and they had them all nicely labeled in Chinese(if you can't understand, they are still pretty). There were a number of birds and butterflies there, and it was a nice short walk.

After wandering around outside, we decided to pay the 100$ fee to go see what else there was offered.  The 100$ fee wasn't too much, and you could use your ticket as 100$ of credit inside the gift shop.  Inside there was a lot to do.  They have a restaurant, which looked quite nice, and, I am told, has amazing food.

We were not too hungry at this point, so we just walked through and came out the back.  Here, there are a lot of pools, and you can pay for a rod to fish in them.  There were also some ducks, and a large boar in the back.
The big boar!

Moving around, we ran into some traditional Chinese rafts.  They were free to try, so I jumped on one and pushed myself around.  It was hard to get my balance at first, but after a few minutes, I got the hang of it and could push myself around with little effort.

After the raft, we wandered a bit more until we found a nice area to sit.  Tables were placed with chairs in the middle of ankle-deep water.  It was a nice area to sit in.  Next to it were some fish pools you can dip your feet in, and some pump-wells to play with.  It looked like a lot of fun for the kids who were getting soaked.

After a short rest, we went to the gift shop.  There were many different items available, all centered around various water plants, and we settled on a couple little pot figurines, with some plants inside, which we exchanged our ticket vouchers for.

All in all, this was a surprisingly fun little place, that made for a lovely date, while being pretty cheap.  It was definitely worth the entry, in my opinion.

First post

Two years ago, I met a beautiful girl from Luodong. Since then, as I spend more and more time in Yilan, I fall more and more in love with this beautiful place. I'm starting this blog in hopes to share my experiences there!
